This past #BlackHistoryMonth, Googlers kicked off a new speaker series called Griots at Google. A griot is a West African historian or storyteller, and the goal of this series is to host leaders and subject matter experts to share what they’ve learned. For the inaugural session, Googlers teamed up with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (@cfda) to bring together panelists from the world of fashion for a wide-ranging conversation about how fashion and tech can come together to make magic. Scroll through for some wisdom from panelists ✨➡️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“You don’t want everyone in the fashion place to be from fashion, you don’t want everyone in the tech company to be from tech, you need to have people from different industries and different thought process and different experiences in your organization...if you don’t have that variety of though on your team, you’re going to be ten steps behind.” 💬: @shorton007 of @alexanderwangny ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I’ve realized that no matter what your economic standing, people love clothes and they wear clothes and it affects so many people, like it or not. It’s a really great way to touch people and communities all over the world that are part of the supply chain. So by committing and working in that industry, it allows us to make change.” 💬: @abrimaerwiah of @studiooneeightynine ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“There’s sometimes a mentality that once you’re invited to the table, you’re so happy to be there that you don’t want to say anything or you don’t want to screw it up. But you have to speak up.” 💬: @chrissyford of @HarpersBazaarUS

Thank you to the panelists for sharing their knowledge and experience, to our partners @cfda, to @co-organizers @therosegoldrenegade and Jackson George, at to all the attendees for joining us for our very Griots at Google event! #lifeatgoogle
